  • The equipment sterilises medical instruments needed in the neonatology department of the Maternity
  • The donation is part of the corporate social responsibility actions of the company, which so far has invested 1.3 million Euro in the medical field

Holzindustrie Schweighofer continues its partnership with institutions in the medical field, part of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy.

Tuesday, 23 April, representatives of the Holzindustrie Schweighofer sawmill in Sebeș have donated an Autoclave B class piece of equipment to the Maternity at the Sebeș Municipal Hospital.

The equipment will be used for the sterilisation of the instruments used in the neonatology department of the Maternity. With an average of 500 births per year, the Maternity at the Sebeș Municipal Hospital provides medical services for almost 60,000 inhabitants on an area which has 120 kilometres in diameter.

“This is not the first time that Holzindustrie Schweighofer is alongside the Municipal Hospital in Sebeș and we invite you to come and see where we will install the piece of equipment which would be so helpful in running the neonatology department,” said Anca Mihaela Franchini, the manager of the Sebeș Municipal Hospital. “We average 40-50 births per month, which means around 500 births per year, and keeping all instruments sterile is a prerequisite condition for us to safely run our everyday activities.”

The Sebeș Municipal Hospital is located in the centre of the country and is organised on a wide range of specialties, which allow for providing medical services for new-borns, children and adults in the city of Sebeș and 15 other townships nearby.

Ionuț Batîr, administrative director the Holzindustrie Schweighofer sawmill in Sebeș, said: “The future of our children starts here and it is a normal thing for us to make sure that they benefit of the best conditions, from their very first breath. We are committed to support the communities in which we run our activities and supporting medical units is a priority for the Schweighofer Group.”

This action is just one of a multitude of projects, investments and sponsorships which Holzindustrie Schweighofer has undergone in the medical field in Romania. To date, the company has invested a total of 1.3 million Euro in renovating and modernising medical units, such as the Ioan Lascăr Town Hospital in Comănești – where investments to the tune of 800,000 Euro have covered the structural rehabilitation of the three-storey building, modernising the patient rooms, a completely new elevator and a modern operating room – or the Chronic Psychiatry Hospital in Siret – which, with the help of a total investment of 170,000 Euro, was transformed into a future-looking medical unit, with two new buildings, with therapy halls and rooms suited to the medical profile, as well as with a well-endowed kitchen furnished with modern equipment.

Other beneficiaries of the Holzindustrie Schweighofer investments in the medical field include the Twon Hospital in Săveni (Botoșani county), the Chrinic Diseases Hospital in Siret, the Târgu Secuiesc, Municipal Hospital, the Dr. Fogolyán Krystóf County Emergency Hospital in Sfântu Gheorghe and the Sfinții Cosma și Damian Municipal Hospital in Rădăuți.
